The 40th Anniversary Macintosh

The Mac at WWDC23

Developers, local officials, and Apple engineers—past and present—went hands-on with the Macintosh at WWDC23.

Design

This custom system brings the power of Apple Silicon to an iconic design in a magical way. It is built inside the body of the 1984 Macintosh, enclosed in a back case bearing the signatures of Steve Jobs and the entire Mac team.

Technology

This machine features everything you’d expect from a modern Mac: the M2 chip, a Liquid Retina display with True Tone, and FaceTime with Center Stage. It also includes some special surprises, like upgraded vintage peripherals, a magnetic front panel that effortlessly aligns celebratory pins, built-in Multi-Touch, and the world’s most versatile 3.5” floppy drive!

The system runs Classic MacOS and macOS Ventura concurrently, enabling unique experiences like the ability to take a FaceTime call while creating in MacPaint. It incorporates components from Mac, iPad, and HomePod mini, utilizing Apple's accessibility and automation frameworks, along with Handoff and Universal Control.
